Textile, stones
2025
Invisible is an exploration of stepping out of the comfort zone of graphic media, expanding into objects, sculpture, and the body. For this project, small stones were meditatively collected on the banks of the Rhine and sewn onto a delicate pink dress. Sometimes it took up to 30 minutes to attach a single stone.
The work seeks to visualize the weight experienced by people during war and emigration. Often, the artist describes herself as the pink dress: to navigate a new environment and receive support, one must “be pink”—light, polite, friendly, and constantly grateful. In the first three months in Germany, without knowledge of the language or acquaintances, she and her mother struggled with basic household tasks, such as installing shelves for dishes and groceries, sometimes having to use the dishwasher in unconventional ways. To manage these everyday challenges, they had to maintain a mask of politeness and gratitude.
Through Invisible, the project makes visible the “inner stones” carried by those who experience displacement—burdens, losses, and unseen struggles that leave traces on the body and spirit. The lines created by the sewn stones and straps of the dress trace these marks, revealing the heaviness and emotional weight that often remains invisible to the outside world.
